Encaustic & Embellishment on Canvas
Studio G Art 1 Day Workshop
Starting with artist's canvas and Encaustic paints you will uncover the ancient techniques, dating back to the 5th century BC, when melted beeswax first was combined with resin and pigments. The luminosity, rich surface, and the beauty of the beeswax forming the surface to embroider upon, give the student a colourful choice to create a one-of-a-kind work of art.
Using design and colour studies each student will develop their own cutting edge creation. Waxes, pigments, tools and methods will be discussed along with techniques on how to achieve smooth, textured and scraped surfaces.

The Craft of Composition Workshop
Vickie Newington, SCA - Instructor
This two day course will focus on composition in a landscape, rather than design. This will enable people who work with fibres to develop the visual vocabulary needed to build their confidence and create works with their own ideas. Such topics as aerial perspective, balance and contrast will be discussed. This language is of lasting benefit to anyone who wants to step outside the box and leave patterns behind.
The instructor will provide the paper and other supplies, as well as notes about definitions of the terms used, and examples of good and bad composition.
Class Fee: $125 + HST = $140
No materials fee for this workshop.
Lunch/snacks, tea & coffee - $12 per day

Flexible Books in Clamshell Boxes
A Book Workshop in 2 Parts
Studio G Art
On the first weekend, we will create a one-of-a-kind Artist’s Book in which the interior pages are worked along with the cover, which will be comprised of laminated cloth over canvas. The cover can be stitched and/or collaged and retains a suppleness which makes for a book which molds to your hands while holding it.
On the second weekend, we will create a rigid clamshell box to house the book. This structure is commonly used to protect all finely bound books and can be also hold individual sheets/stitcheries, suites of images, etc. You will learn all the basics and be able to customize this box structure for other specific items in the future.
